The Berwickshire Civic Society is a Non-Statutory Planning Consultee with Scottish Borders Council.

One of the cornerstones of our Society is the maintenance and preservation of Berwickshire’s built heritage. The Society continues to support the reinstatement of wooden vertical sliding sash windows, rather than replacing with non-sustainable uPVC Windows, which is recommended in the Council’s draft guidelines on replacement windows. We comment on applications to enforce any potential infringements to preserve the historic integrity of our urban and rural buildings.

The Society continues to oppose the large scale industrial wind turbine developments on the grounds that the Berwickshire landscape has reached saturation point. We support only small onshore wind turbine proposals that are appropriated to the landscape and location, and favour offshore solutions, particularly wave and tidal.
