SCT Annual Conference 2016 – Celebrating Civic Pride Each year the Scottish Civic Society holds a conference and it is a great opportunity to network and gain a better understanding of what other organisations are achieving. Once again the judges for Keep Berwickshire Tidy Awards reported that litter is still evident in many areas, particularly around the major roads. However the judges were impressed by the tidiness of the major towns and mentioned Coldstream, Eyemouth and Duns. This year the judges were looking for areas that had improved since the 2015 judging and were particularly impressed with Chirnside and Edrom, Allanton and Whitsome.
It was therefore decided that the award would be as follows. Keep Berwickshire Tidy Award 2016: Edrom, Allanton and Whitsome.
Highly Commended: Chirnside.
Commended: Cocksburnpath and Cove; Gavinton, Fogo and Polwarth. (more…)
After seventeen years in post the Society reluctantly accepted the resignation of its Treaurer Robin Lindsay. The Chairman, Matthew Gibb, thanked Robin for his excellent work and support over the years. The Committee was unanimously re-elected and Kate Stephenson was elected as the Society’s new Treasurer. The winner of the 2015 award was St Abbs. Whilst a very small area it does receive hundreds of visitors each year and has a working harbour. The judges deemed it picture perfect scoring the highest mark. However all the judges were very aware that it is a constant challenge to keep litter at Read more…
