Berwickshire Civic Society appoints new Honorary President and Vice President to secure its long term role

The BCS Committee are delighted to announce that two key figures in Berwickshire life have agreed to take on Honorary Roles.
In the strong tradition of the leadership provided by the late Lady McEwen of Marchmont we are very grateful that Sally, Countess of Home has agreed to be our new Hon President. Sally and her Husband Michael, are joint custodians of the Hirsel Estate at Coldstream and have the future of Berwickshire at the heart of their plans. We will be welcoming her at our Annual General Meeting on the 29th of September 2025.
To support her in her role as President for the first time we are creating an Hon Vice President and are delighted to be offering that honour to a longstanding Member, Committee Member, supporter and champion of Berwickshire Mr William Ramsay of Bughtrig. Will’s enthusiasm for the heritage of our County is hard to match and will be hugely valuable to the Society.
Adrian Smith the current Chairman said of these two appointments ” The Society has a County wide role that has lasted over 50 years, Committee Members come and go, even Chairmen are replaced regularly, but Presidents are permanent appointments and as has been proven in the past, are key to the Civic Society staying on mission. I know both Sally and Will expect the highest standards and will set a vision for the next 50 years for our beautiful County of Berwickshire.”
